What is your favorite
film of all the time? Why do you think it is so good?
It is always hard for me to choose only one favorite book or film of all
the books and films I like. So I would like to tell you about two of my favorite
films. Both of them are biographical, about people, who, unfortunately, have
passed away, but have definitely left a mark on history and my heart.
The first one, called ‘Ray’, is focusing on the life of a famous
musician, a pioneer of soul music – Ray Charles. I should mention that when I
saw this film for the first time I was about nine years old. Since then it is
the only film, which makes me cry whenever I watch it. There are many reasons
why this film is worth seeing, for example, because it is based on a fact. In
addition, this is a real story of a blind man, who achieved a success and went
through thick and thin, which I find very motivational. There are also many sad
moments, which, however, can be perceived as a catharsis, it’s exactly the way
you feel after watching that.
The second film I never get tired of, called ‘Gia’,
is about the life of model Gia Marie Carangi, starring Angelina Jolie. In my
opinion, this film has own inspiring moments too, but, in general, it is a tragic
story without happy ending. However, I think that sometimes we need films like
that, to show us not only excellence, but also a cruelty of life. On the other
side, despite of all the suffering and pain this girl went through in her life,
she wasn’t unhappy at all. This film shows how different people’s life can be,
some of us want to raise kids, be in love and retire, but others prefer another
way as she preferred. Though her life has ended horribly and she was addicted
to heroin, there was something that makes me envy. She has courage, she never
believed in limitations and prejudices, she didn’t live by any rules, but her own.
Moreover, she contributed a great deal to fashion and photography development.
Here are her famous last words:
“Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth
it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could.
The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having
been allowed to walk where I’ve walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on
earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above.”
The last thing I have to say is that these films truly add meaning to my
life, that’s why they have great importance to me.
